Skillinvest indigenous school based traineeship program

Each year the Wurreker Awards provide an opportunity for VAEAI in partnership with the Department of Education and Training to showcase examples of achievement, inclusion and best practice in Koorie post-compulsory education and training and employment.

This year Skillinvest has been selected as a Finalist in the Training Provider – Non-TAFE Provider (Learn Local, University, Private Registered Training Organisation) Category for our Indigenous School Based Traineeship Program funded by Jobs Victoria and supported by Victoria Police.  The program provides students with paid part-time employment in an office based environment in an operating Police station over a two year placement. Pathways and further traineeships are offered to students on completion of the traineeship by the Australian tax office, Victoria Police and other government authorities. Currently 30 trainees have commenced in 24 Police stations around Victoria. The funding will eventually see 60 trainees commence over a four year period.

Congratulations must also go to Angelina Lucas on becoming a finalist in the Individual category of Outstanding Public Sector employee. Lina is currently completeing her school based traineeship with the Ballarat West Police station as is a well respected member of the team.

Winners will be announced at a the awards ceremony to be held on Thursday 13th September.
