Business Development Officer

Tell us a bit about your role at Skillinvest

My role is the Business Development Officer- Metro. I am based within the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in the Dandenong office and involves expanding our portfolio of training delivery in the areas that Skillinvest currently have on its scope. That list of areas is growing which means very exciting times ahead for Skillinvest!

What do you enjoy about the role so far?

What I am really enjoying about my role so far is getting to know everyone across the company and learning about all the different programs Skillinvest offer such as the Lift Off program, JVEN program, and the Young Parents Education Program just to name a few. I was particularly blown away at the enormity of Longerenong College. It has been exciting getting out on the road and getting stuck into it! I’ve been meeting employers and apprentices, and growing our services. It’s been an exciting, challenging, and very invigorating start.

What did you do before coming to Skillinvest?

Before coming on board with Skillinvest I worked in a couple of Business Development roles, most recently with another RTO and before that a recruitment/labour hire company in the health and community services space.

What are you looking forward to most in your role?

I am looking forward to doing more of rolling up the sleeves and getting involved. Im looking forward to seeing what we can achieve in 2018 and beyond.

What are your hobbies?

I train in a martial art called Krav Maga which I’ve been doing for a few years now. Traveling has always been my number one passion which is how I met my partner and led to me moving halfway around the globe from New York to Melbourne in 2008. I’m also busy coaching footy in the winter and baseball in the summer and whatever other sport my 2 sons get involved in down the track.

Favourite sporting team?

I follow sport in both Australia and the US very closely. I am a huge Melbourne Demons supporter. I also follow the NFL in the US (NY Giants), Major League Baseball (NY Yankees) and ice hockey in both Australia (Melbourne Ice) and the US (NY Islanders).

If you could have dinner with anyone who would it be and why?

Barack Obama. I’d like to learn more from his experience as a world leader and what he has seen and done. I would also like to find out how he was able to do all this and be so calm and cool

Greatest role model?

My grandfather because he lived a full life until the age of 96, lived through the Great Depression, been to war, ran a couple of business, and seen 4 generations of his family. He educated himself until the last day of his life. He was a leader that didn’t have to say much he just did what he had to do, was trusted, was true to his words, and was successful in business and in life He was also the most calm and collected person I have ever witnessed. He lived his life never fearing death.

Favourite quote, movie and food?

My favourite quote is “This is going straight to the poolroom” from The Castle

My favourite movie of all time is Back to the Future-the whole trilogy

My favourite food is anything Italian

What, if anything, have you ever re-gifted

Ive only re-gifted once, and it didn’t end well…the person knew the gift and who it was given to originally…so I never have done it again since

And just for a bit of friendly debate……….

Which way does your toilet paper hang on the wall – over or under?
