Celebrating a Remarkable Career

Kate Clark Retires After 23 Years of Service with Skillinvest

After nearly a quarter of a century, Skillinvest Apprenticeship Consultant Kate Clark will retire on 8 August 2025, marking the end of an exceptional career supporting apprentices, trainees, and businesses across the Donald region and throughout Victoria.

Since stepping into her role in June 2002, Kate has been a driving force behind the success of over 1,000 apprentices and trainees, working closely with host employers to create meaningful employment pathways. Her dedication and unwavering commitment have shaped careers, strengthened industries, and built lasting relationships across the Wimmera Mallee region.

Kate’s influence has extended far beyond Donald. She has supported host businesses across Victoria, often travelling long distances to ensure apprentices and trainees received the guidance they needed. Her work with major contracts—including O’Connors, VicRoads, the Department of Transport, and Jobs Victoria placements—has been instrumental in connecting young people with opportunities across the state.

Reflecting on her time with Skillinvest, Kate shared:
“Over the 23 years with Skillinvest, the friendships I’ve made will stay with me forever. It’s been a pleasure to work with all the host employers and apprentices/trainees—travelling from one countryside to the other, seeing some wonderful sights along the way. Not once have I woken up and said, ‘Oh golly, I must go to work today.’ One of the most rewarding parts of this role has been seeing apprentices and trainees complete their qualifications. I’ve worked with big companies and one-man businesses, and each experience has been special.”

Skillinvest General Manager of Operations Glen Pohlner said:
“Kate is not just a respected professional—she is an icon in the community. Her deep local connections, tireless advocacy, and genuine care have made her a trusted partner to businesses and a mentor to generations of apprentices and trainees.”

As Kate prepares for retirement, she will be working alongside her successor, Simon Rohde, to ensure a smooth transition and continued support for the Donald region.
With Kate’s retirement, the organisation remains fully committed to servicing the area combining in-person visits with remote support to maintain the high level of service the community expects.

Simon Rohde brings extensive experience in the employment sector and a strong passion for supporting regional communities. He is excited to continue Kate’s legacy and build new relationships across Donald and surrounding areas.

“I’m honoured to take on this role and continue the incredible work Kate has done,” said Simon. “Donald is a vibrant and resilient community, and I’m looking forward to working closely with local businesses, apprentices, and trainees to support their growth and success.”

Skillinvest thanks Kate for her extraordinary contribution and wishes her all the best in her retirement. Her legacy will continue to inspire the team and the community for years to come.
