BuildHER – Women Apprenticeship Program
Skillinvest has partnered with ICON to deliver the BuildHER program. This program empowers women starting a career in commercial construction with comprehensive, paid pre-employment training, mentoring and support throughout participants first 12 months as an apprentice or trainee.
Indigenous employment
Skillinvest has a strong track record of providing employment opportunities to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander jobseekers across a wide range of industries in Victoria. We specialise in offering apprenticeships, traineeships and labour hire personnel for both domestic and commercial major projects.
We can support employers wanting to employ Indigenous staff by recruiting and transitioning suitable candidates into employment and providing ongoing support. For Indigenous jobseekers we provide training opportunities to increase skills and work readiness, we actively seek employment opportunities and work in partnership with communities and service providers to alleviate barriers that prevent sustainable employment.
We are dedicated to increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees in diverse, inclusive and culturally appropriate career pathways so that families and communities can thrive.
PROGRAMS THAT HAVE LEFT A LASTING IMPACT
Indigenous Traineeship Program
The Indigenous Traineeship Program (ITP) is a transformative initiative that provides Indigenous individuals with a unique opportunity to work in police stations as trainees while simultaneously staying at school and completing a Certificate III in Business Administration.
Skillinvest’s ITP exemplifies the power of collaboration, education, and mentorship in creating positive change for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait individuals, the police force, and the broader community.
This program is replicable across government agencies and private organisations who have a stake in Indigenous employment programs; for example large private companies with a Reconciliation Action Plan can achieve a number of deliverables by utilising this program.

Jobs Victoria Mentor Service
Skillinvest partnered with Jobs Victoria to deliver the Jobs Victoria Mentor service, providing personalised support to jobseekers.
This impactful program empowered individuals facing barriers to employment – such as long term unemployment, limited skills, or personal challenges – by building their confidence, work readiness, and career prospects.
Through tailored mentoring our team helped participants gain essential skills, explore career options, and secure meaningful employment.
Statewide Racing Project
The Statewide Racing Project was an initiative designed to address labour shortages in the thoroughbred racing industry across Victoria.
Over 18 months, this impactful program provided tailored support to jobseekers from priority groups, including mentorship, secure employment, and comprehensive training.
Participants gained practical skills, industry specific knowledge, and valuable work experience, enabling them to build successful careers as stablehands with pathways to other roles in the racing industry.
This program not only met the demands of the industry but also empowered disadvantaged jobseekers to achieve their goals.
This program was supported by the Victorian Government through Jobs Victoria, in partnership with Racing Victoria.
Grow Your Future
Skillinvest partnered with Jobs Victoria and the Nursery & Garden Industry Victoria (NGIV) to deliver Grow Your Future, supporting jobseekers to explore rewarding careers in horticulture.
This innovative initiative provided participants with foundational training, workplace mentoring, and vital resources to build confidence, job readiness, and industry-specific skills.
The program connected individuals with employers, offering hands-on experience and tailored support that paved the way for long-term success in a thriving industry.
Lendlease Tradie Bootcamp
Skillinvest, alongside a range of industry partners, are proud to collaborate with Lendlease to co-design and deliver the Lendlease Tradie Bootcamp. This program was developed to tackle industry skills shortages while driving greater gender equity in traditionally male-dominated trades.
Through hands-on training in metal fabrication, landscaping, joinery, window fabrication, cladding, and electrical, female apprentices gain essential skills and practical experience, paving the way for future career opportunities in the trades.
