OVERVIEW
CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry is the mandatory unit required for anyone seeking to enter and work on a construction site in Australia. Commonly known as the White Card course, it provides learners with the essential knowledge and skills to identify construction hazards, understand basic risk‑control measures, and follow workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements.
The unit covers legal responsibilities, safe work practices, emergency procedures, and effective communication about safety concerns. Successful completion demonstrates that a worker can contribute to maintaining a safe work environment and is eligible to receive a White Card through Work Safe Victoria, which is recognised nationally across the construction industry.
