AUR20720 CERTIFICATE II IN AUTOMOTIVE VOCATIONAL PREPARATION
OVERVIEW
AUR20720 is a nationally recognised entry‑level qualification designed to introduce students to the automotive industry and develop the foundational skills required for a wide range of automotive trade pathways.
The qualification provides hands‑on experience in basic servicing, maintenance, and repair tasks across light vehicles, heavy vehicles, outdoor power equipment, and automotive electrical systems.
This program is a partnership arrangement between Skillinvest/Longerenong College and participating schools.

AURTTF102 Inspect and service diesel fuel injection systems
*Alongside the standard units in this qualification, you will also complete an additional diesel‑specific unit. Upon completion, you will graduate with the AUR20720 Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation and receive a separate Statement of Attainment for the diesel unit.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal entry requirements for this Training Program.
All students must complete the enrolment process to undertake the training program including a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment and Pre-Training Review to ensure the training program is suitable for the student to enrol.
This training program is offered through Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students (VDSS) and is available for secondary students in Years 10-12.
Clothing/Footwear Requirements:
- Work boots comprising of safety toe and a sole that is resistant to most oils, acids and chemicals
- Long pants and long sleeve shirt for safety purposes

Upon completion of the Training Program, the employment pathways may include:
- Automotive workshop assistant
- Vehicle service assistant
- Service department support workers

- AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology
- AUR31120 Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology
- AUR30320 Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology

What is the duration of this Training Program?
One day per week over 2 years during school terms.
ASSESSMENT
Students will be assessed based on the unit of competency requirements and assessment conditions.
This may include a combination of:
- Knowledge questions
- Workplace practical/simulation
- Written projects
- Third Party Reports
- Test (oral, written or practical)
Upon completion of the Training Program, Students will be awarded with a nationally recognised certificate.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Credit Transfer (CT)
Skillinvest Ltd recognises all Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other training providers. A student may apply to have a unit of competency recognised by Longerenong College if the unit code and title exactly matches the unit of competency for which recognition is being sought; or if the unit of competency held is superseded and equivalent to the current unit of competency.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Skillinvest Ltd recognises that people learn and acquire skills and knowledge in ways other than just formal study or current training. A person may acquire skills relevant to the work situation through non-accredited training courses, workplace training, hobbies, interests and life experience. Sometimes the skills and knowledge acquired in these ways can be applied to the current workplace tasks and roles a person is performing. The RPL process measures these previously acquired skills and knowledge against unit/s of competency.
Skillinvest Ltd verify the evidence provided by prospective students applying for Recognition of Prior Learning.
During the Pre-Training Review and Enrolment Process, Prospective Students are informed of the Credit Transfer and RPL process and any associated fees that may be incurred.
